Welcome to the Website of Qi Lin
Pipa player Yang Wei and double bassist DaXun Zhang both continue to enjoy performing as soloists. The two met while participating in the Silk Road Project, lead by the renown cellist Yo-Yo Ma, and they instantly envisioned themselves playing together as a team. Wei and Zhang share the passion to create music that goes beyond expectations. They have been pushing the technical limits of their instruments and now, they are exploring the varied musical genres together. Qi Lin (pronounced Chee-Lin) is a Chinese mythological creature which is the symbol of benevolence. The god of all mammals, Qi Lin, has the head of the dragon, body of the deer, hooves of the horse and tail of the ox. Often joined by pianist Tomoko Kashiwagi, the group hopes to bridge between cultures and to introduce new musical concepts to the audience around the globe. Photo: JoAnn Carney |
